Our Yarns
Fine Yarns from across the British Isles
The yarns we stock here at Kathy’s Knits are some of the finest from across the British Isles, a few of which are exclusive to our shop in the Edinburgh area. While much is centred around Scottish breeds, our stock includes yarns from the Shetlands to Guernsey from hand-picked producers.

Best of British Yarns
Our yarns are sourced from a select group of British farmers, suppliers and hand-dyers. These include Blacker, New Lanark, J C Rennie, Jamieson & Smith, Woolyknits, baa ram ewe, West Yorkshire Spinners (WYS), Abercairn Yarns, Ripples Crafts and Uradale Yarns.
All our suppliers have been carefully chosen for their superb quality, range and reputation.
We specialise in natural fibre and hand-dyed yarns in beautiful colours, shades and textures to satisfy even the most demanding knitters. As part of our quality control, we regularly visit our suppliers and input ideas into product development.
We stock 100% natural wool from some of the rare Scottish and English breeds, the Channel Islands and the Falklands. Kathy’s Knits own brand Hebridean yarn is of the highest quality and our Hebridean/Mohair 4-ply blends mohair with the natural dark Hebridean fleece to enhance its softness and ability to work with dyes. When available we stock yarn from St Kilda sheep.
As well as Shetland, other breeds include Blue-faced Leicester, Romney and Wensleydale. As a result we have a varied range of weights, colours and textures for all kinds of hand-knit and machine knit projects.
